1. I had an a weird but awesome dream.

2. [livejournal.com profile] bookshop posting and then, randomly, there was a STARGATE: ATLANTIS Fandom Primer on your flist which is a must read for anyone who is or has ever been in SGA fandom, and anyone who's not but craned their head over the side of the fandom fence once and wondered what the HELL their neighbors were doing over there. BEST FANDOM EVER THE END.

3. Merlin vid rec!! I watched this too late (see: previous post about failing at lj, etc. etc.) to put it in my [livejournal.com profile] attheroundtable post, which is a shame but OMG YAY.

As The Day Is Fading by [livejournal.com profile] lovestories (Merlin OT4 vid okay maybe OT5 with Lancelot, PG)

I love "White Houses" by Vanessa Carleton. And I love me some Merlin OT4. This vid is the perfect intersection of those loves. Seriously, though, it's beautifully edited, and the song is all about this bittersweet but hopeful loss of innocence and a group of friends, which is why it's utterly perfect for making a Merlin vid. GO SEE IT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY.

I've decided to try this as a list this time:

1. I am behind on soooo many things, including my flist, my Netflix, my laundry, and my plans for catching up on BSG before the finale. I also somehow haven't managed to watch the last half of Being Human 1.02, despite having watched the first half days ago.

2. I have, however, managed to watch 1.01-1.08 of Skins. Loving it so much so far! Where does the fandom hang out? (Also, is it just me or is Tony/Sid/Michelle a fucked up OT3 of awesome?)

3. I got a new layout! And a paid account, with more icon space than I can handle. (There is a disproportionate amount of Merlin ones. Especially Morgana icons. I NEED HELP.)

4. On an unrelated note of TOTAL FAIL: Seriously???? Normally I can put PeTA in the "well intentioned but kind of crazy" box, but that totally crosses the line.

5. There's another addition to the discussion about that [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings post over at [livejournal.com profile] mecurtin's here that's worth checking out if you're following it.

6. [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin posting week is coming up really soon! (And since I'm not writing anything I can say that without a trace of panic or OHGODWHATWASITHINKING??) *bounces* (ETA: Posting is extended!)

Also, as per usual, a Merlin fic rec at the end, in shiny new blockquote format for emphasis!

That Which Binds by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan

This is [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan's entry for today for [livejournal.com profile] 14_valentines. I read it early this morning and it's still sticking with me. [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan takes the (perhaps?) inevitable fall of Camelot and turns it on its head in a way that's brilliant and wrenching and somehow still hopeful all at once. (Also, her Merlin totally deserves the Rodney McKay Brave Little Toaster Award for this. Oh, Merlin.)

*In college, I used to be a fairly ridiculous person. I don't mean in the frat-girl, dancing-on-the-table, streaking-the-quad kind of way (OK FINE ONLY SOMETIMES), but more that I used to be way more of a spazz. A procrastinating, all-over-the-place, sometimes-a-flake of a girl. Consequently, I spent most of my time in college when I was not in class fighting the urge to walk to the sunken gardens and do a massive, full body, HOLY SHIT WHY IS MY LIFE SO AWKWARD faceplant into the grass.

I'm not saying this is a great way to live, and I do enjoy being mostly (ha) on top of my shit and on time/early to work every day, etc. Still, there is a part of me that wishes I could go back (metaphorically) to that time in my life where my mom walked into a room with me and my friends and said, I found this vibrator when I was cleaning the basement, where do you want me to put it? (TRUE STORY, KIDS.)

That's weird, right?

Anyway, the point of this story is actually not my post-adolescent angst, it's about vibrators. (Surprise!)

Cut for vibrators. And my blathering. )

*In fandom news, I’m being feeling a wee bit strange. As in bizarrely wandering back down memory lane and reading stuff like Professionals fic and Ray/Ray Due South stuff and sad McShep stories that remind me why John Sheppard can break my heart into tiny pieces like no one else. I think it has to do with Merlin being on hiatus and SGA being over and maybe I’m a wee bit adrift? I dunno. :(

*In more news, I signed up for the Pay It Forward meme from [livejournal.com profile] verav and then, ignoring the whole point, forgot to post it to my lj. So! Here it is! Look out for baked goods, probably vegan ones (even though I’m not vegan anymore). But who knows, I might get inspired to do something else like write all that fic I mention but never finish:

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be about or tailored to those five lucky "victims."

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
- You have no clue what it's going to be or when it’s going to be. It may be fic. It may be poetry. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

If you comment in this post, you have to post this in your journal. Thats the catch. So do it. DO IT.

*So. How you doin'?

Happy Christmas to all those who celebrate it!

My grandparents have internet but no wireless and only a computer in the living room. I love my grandmother but I'm not even out to her and I'm pretty sure she would cry if she saw what I get up to online on a normal basis (in my grandparents' house "Democrats!" is a curse word, trufax) so it turns out I've only been able to get online occasionally.

I can't wait to read all the Yuletide fic!

Anyway I just wanted to poke my head in and say hi to everyone. Best flist ever!!! Big s to you all.

Question to the Universe: Why, oh why, oh why am I not on a VH1 "World Series of Pop Culture" team?

Seriously. I am so much better than these chuckleheads. Who doesn't know that the song from the SNL Chippendales/Chris Farley sketch is "Working For the Weekend"? *yeah, does the dance*

Also, new SGA tonight! I keep forgetting that there's a new one every week, and then I remember, and then I'm like happy and stuff. *twirls hair*

One more final to go! And then I'm free to go home for a month and fuck around on the internet without feeling guilty and productive. And see people! Like [livejournal.com profile] duckfish, who has been away for so long, which shouldn't happen ever again. And see the gay cowboy movie hopefully before I crack and spoil myself! And maybe make progress on the definitive P/O Post-OoTP fic! And work (which doesn't really deserve an exclamation point, but I've got a pattern going here)!

Really though, I just wanted to share that I wore this shirt that [livejournal.com profile] moonblade85 got me from BASCon to my final this morning (under my hoodie, 'cause I'm bisocial like that). I was very tired when I got dressed this morning, but I think the idea was that having Rodney McKay's head over my right boob would make me smarter or something. The final went far better than I expected, so maybe it worked. *pats right boob*

Ah. The [livejournal.com profile] crack_van is back. Just in time to distract me from my remaining finals. Yessss.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] moonblade85 went to a gay pride parade thing in Philly this weekend....

THERE WERE MOUNTIES. She got pictures. Squee!

Damn my school for not letting me out early enough to go. Between this and the random people who ran into CKR and Hugh Dillon recently... *so. freakin'. jealous.*

Yahoo! is my homepage. Go take a look. I don't know if it's just me, but the time that is listed on the "In The News" thingie did not take Daylight Savings in account. (Incidentally, the "In The News" section had an article on Daylight Savings this past Sunday, but apparently chose to ignore it.) It has been wrong for about a day and a half, and is, for some reason, DRIVING ME BATSHIT. It won't change! Even when I tell it that I live in Burma!

I just complained about to Yahoo. (Yes, apparently I am That Girl.) But they better take care of this, or you know what? I may make Google my homepage instead. Take that, you wrong time page you.

The thing is, I'm really not that anal! I swear! Except for when I am.

Okay, I've been thinking a lot lately about the content of this journal and the people who read it. The way I see it, my lj serves two purposes:

1) To keep in contact with my friends from back home (with all of those frequent, un-pointless life updates I do all the time *cough*). This was the original purpose of this lj. However, increasingly, another focus of it has been...

2) Fandom. I'm sure there are a few random people on my flist from real life that are like "WTF? Fanfiction? Freak." (Petra, I'm looking at you. Mwah!) And since the content of this lj is increasingly becoming more fandom than RL, I've decided to continue that trend.

So from now on, you can count on 90% of the posts here to be fandom related. If I have important life updates, they will go over at [livejournal.com profile] chmpgnsuprnova, for my close friends at home. I'm assuming if you aren't a member of that community, you probably couldn't give less of a crap about whether I'm failing Intro to Finance or not. (I'm not, btw, that was just an example chosen at random.)

I guess I could get a new lj with a different name. But this is way too much hassle for me, Lazy McLaziness. So, basically, the point is this: if you're on my flist (all like 15 of you. I'm so popular. :), and you barely know me in RL anyway, and don't want to hear me squeeing about random Canadian movies and HP essays (or if you think I suck and just don't want to be my friend anyway), please feel free to unfriend me. No hard feelings. (I would unfriend the people I feel fall into this category, but this seems mean and presumptuous of me.)

I really should just take my sn off my facebook profile. Weird, *weird* people I don't know keep IMing me. I just don't do the whole talking online to strangers thing.

Tonight was a comp sci/philosophy major who's been on facebook since September and yet has only 2 friends. 2. Sketchy. However, despite being vaguely creepy, this guy apparently has a webcomic which is very amusing. Like this one:

Placed behind a lj cut due to extreme sacreligious-ness )

In other news, I'm being very busy and important most days. :)

So...this will only really be interesting for Molly, Lini, Meg and Sonja maybe, so the rest of you can roll your eyes and move on. Yeah, it's a fangirl moment.

At school, unlike lucky Meg, I haven't really found anyone to be all slashy and fangirly with. There is my friend Shari who's really into HP, and knows her way around ff.net and FA, but she's not into slash as far as I've been able to tell. So we can bond over the general HP obsessiveness, but no further, as I view the world through slash colored glasses and she doesn't.

Sadly, the general truth is that it's almost impossible to find a fellow slash fan randomly in RL. After all, we don't all go around with T-shirts that say "I read and write gay pr0n based on characters in movies, television, and a popular children's book series. How 'bout you?" And even if you do wear fannish t-shirts, what about the inevitable "What's your shirt mean?" ("Oh, 'Sparrington'? It's a band. They're kinda obscure. Heh.")

This is frustrating to me, but it's partially my fault.

Because maybe I should be more open about it, more willing to let all my friends here know about one of my chief hobbies. But I haven't come out yet as a slasher. And I don't know if I ever will. Hell, I used to not put anything fandom-y here, for fear that some RL person would read it and discover my horrible secret. But you know what? Screw that. It's a part of my life, esp. my internet life, and if I want to post about it I will. And while it's entirely possible that some RL person from school has already tracked down this journal and figured the whole thing out, no one's said anything yet. (Besides, it's almost like having them know isn't nearly as bad as actually explaining it in person.) But until someone confronts me about it, I'll continue to live a double life. Which is kind of sad, because it means I'm a little bit ashamed of the whole business, even though I know I shouldn't be. *sigh*

That said, I'm especially aware of how lucky I am to have you guys from back home who are in fandom too. It's nice to have a RL and internet outlet for this.

Despite all that, I do keep trying to find fellow slashers here at school. And maybe I'm just projecting here, but recently I've come to believe that my friend Erica, if she wasn't too 'cool' to be into fanfiction, would in fact be a slasher.

My evidence:

*She once said to me that because she's a film major, she knows homoerotic subtext in movies like no one else (I scoffed at this. She's got nothin' on me.)

*When watching Jeeves and Wooster, has totally agreed with me that they're so married. And, when Jeeves leaves Bertie's service over the trombone, she was like, "Nooo!!! They can't break up!!" And she thought it was really cute that they still hung out even while Jeeves wasn't working for Bertie because, as she said, "They have to be together!"

*She has this film class project where she has to take a movie and make a trailer for it. Only the trailer has to make the movie come off completely differently in the trailer than it actually is. Like, for example, making a trailer of Psycho that makes it come off as a tender drama about a mother and son. One of her ideas? Take the Odd Couple and create a trailer for it that makes it seem like a breakthrough gay romance movie for the 60s. Dude!! The girl wants to make a slashy vid! And she doesn't even know what that is!!

Intriguing, ne?

It's a little late for New Year's resolutions, so let's call this one a mid-July resolution. (After all, who says that all life-changing determinations can only be made on one arbitrary date? That's...dumb, or something.) Here it is:

As of this moment, I shall not buy anything off Ebay ever again.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOLE-AY!!!

It's pink. Just for you.
merelyn: yes, that is panda from skins hugging a giant fluffy cupcake pillow. (Default)
*sniff* I'm positive that I did, in fact, buy the third season of Coupling. I distinctly remember it being in my house. It was vaguely in the area of the dining room table when I left for work yesterday morning. It was.

Somehow, between then and when I got home from work at midnight (after a day that contained a great deal of crap) it wandered off. *paranoid squint* Maybe it decided it didn't like me anymore and ran away.

I've looked all over my house foverer, finally getting to the peeking under rocks point. Even looked in the microwave. It's no where to be found and it's driving me nuts. Can't let it go, either. It's really frustrating, especially when all I want to right now is curl up on the couch and watch it. Bah. Baaaaah.

Crap. Now that I have a job and $ and a bit of free time, the lures of ebay and internet shopping have taken me.

Must restrain self before I end up going to bed having ordered (in addition to the things I've already purchased) the Complete Series of Firefly, seasons one and two of The Office and shitloads of other TV Series stuff that I don't need...exactly. *deep breath* Okay. I think I am under control.

Ooh. Just remembered fabulous Easy Bake Oven t-shirt on the Hot Topic website...

Ignore this

Okay, this is just me fooling around with random html.

(In case you can't tell, the novelty of having one of these has yet to wear off.)

I went shopping for dorm stuff with Pe[livejournal.com profile] tra (it looks like her name with a head poking up in the middle. Ha!) and Meg today. It was really, really, really fun. Maybe not that fun, but look how I messed with the text there. Yeah. Too easily amused.

I can do cuts! )

It moves!

And that's all I'm going to burden you with. In fact, I will probably delete this. I should go to bed, or I could figure out how to change fonts, font size, color, and get pictures on this. Choices, choices...
