One more final to go! And then I'm free to go home for a month and fuck around on the internet without feeling guilty and productive. And see people! Like
duckfish, who has been away for so long, which shouldn't happen ever again. And see the gay cowboy movie hopefully before I crack and spoil myself! And maybe make progress on the definitive P/O Post-OoTP fic! And work (which doesn't really deserve an exclamation point, but I've got a pattern going here)!
Really though, I just wanted to share that I wore this shirt that
moonblade85 got me from BASCon to my final this morning (under my hoodie, 'cause I'm bisocial like that). I was very tired when I got dressed this morning, but I think the idea was that having Rodney McKay's head over my right boob would make me smarter or something. The final went far better than I expected, so maybe it worked. *pats right boob*

Date: 2005-12-08 06:27 pm (UTC)interesting...i think the reason i started with rps was because i thought the actors were hot, and it worked for me mainly because i could look at pictures of real people, and i needed that then. even though i'm a late fan of lotr, i definitely got into the books before the movies, and had very definite constructions of the characters going into it, so i never really felt like fps was realistic enough.
i think lotrips and sga work well for the same reason: the people involved give the fans just enough to make slash believable, but never so much that there's no room for original characterization.
anyway...sorry for rambling. i tend to be pretty private about fandom because family friends read my journal sometimes - hence why i'm not actually in any communities. so this is a refreshing conversation for me :)

Yeah, there are some shows (like BSG and Grey's Anatomy, which I love) that are so well-done and tight that you don't feel the need to fill the gaps in, because there aren't many. SGA is definitely in that good middle ground, I agree.
Though I came to SGA from a older school fandom, due South, which is arguably one of the most canonically slashy buddy-cop shows ever. (They did everything except make out- and even then- including riding off into the sunset at the end of the show.) It was a little strange downshifting in a more subtexty fandom, but then my first big slash fandom was Harry Potter, where my favorite pairing never even talked once in canon, so I'm not that picky, actually. :)
And I totally understand the rambling, my lj used to be completely non-fannish too. But then family friends (and most of mine from school) don't know about it. I think.

ALSO.
Oh man, Due South, SGA, Naomi Novik, Canada? You and my best friend
*requisite slashy icon*
Yay!

But yay! And if you do ever come over for Sci Fi friday, (or BSG when it finally airs, have you ever seen BSG?), you won't be put off but the gratuitous slashy squeeing that happens.

Never seen BSG, and I'm a little wary...what about it appeals to you? Plot? Technology? Pretty graphics? Character development?
I actually don't watch much sci-fi besides X-Files and Star Wars, because there's a fine line between good and extremely cheesy. However: FIREFLY. We're having a marathon some weekend this year...the whole series and the movie, because Caitlin's never seen it. You need to come!
Gratuitous Slashy Squeeing (GSS) is what I do! Believe me. And on that note....Krycek/Mulder? Tell me you've seen them! *ded from the hot*

Date: 2006-09-09 05:52 pm (UTC)As for BSG, the whole well-thought-out plot and character development thing kinda sold me on it. Plus Starbuck = so awesome and hot it's ridiculous. That said, I'm not fannish about it at all, because it stands so well on it's own I don't really need fanfic for it.
Yes, Firefly marathon! Let me know!
Krycek/Mulder? Well, I was into the X-Files way way before I was into slash at all, and I haven't seen any episodes in years, so while I theoretically support it, I'm not that familiar with canon anymore. (I *do* remember seeing the whole red speedo episode when it was on TV, though.)

Date: 2006-09-09 05:58 pm (UTC)You must see.
I would not mind seeing a little of BSG to see if I like it. And, for all intents and purposes, I really should watch Stargate, but I'm so stubborn. Should get over that.
I'm going to get lunch. Darn you for (probably not) having a meal plan so we can jabber over fandom!
