One more final to go! And then I'm free to go home for a month and fuck around on the internet without feeling guilty and productive. And see people! Like [livejournal.com profile] duckfish, who has been away for so long, which shouldn't happen ever again. And see the gay cowboy movie hopefully before I crack and spoil myself! And maybe make progress on the definitive P/O Post-OoTP fic! And work (which doesn't really deserve an exclamation point, but I've got a pattern going here)!

Really though, I just wanted to share that I wore this shirt that [livejournal.com profile] moonblade85 got me from BASCon to my final this morning (under my hoodie, 'cause I'm bisocial like that). I was very tired when I got dressed this morning, but I think the idea was that having Rodney McKay's head over my right boob would make me smarter or something. The final went far better than I expected, so maybe it worked. *pats right boob*

*pumps fist* Yessss! SGA is so much more cracked out and craptastically fun than BSG.

haha i was actually talking about lotrips. i've never really felt that much slashiness from bsg...and you're right, it's totally too serious. i feel like anything in that fandom would be completely depressing. lotr (exclusively rps, i get nervous messing around with tolkien) was what actually got me into slash, but it's kind of mostly dead except for au these days, given that the movies have been over for so long. sga, on the other hand, is tons of fun.

Oh. *feels stupid* Dur, sorry. Yeah, lotrips is something I've only ever dipped a toe or two into, mostly because ironically I get nervous messing around with RPS. :) LoTR, on the other hand, got me into slash too, and though I'm not active in it at all anymore, it will always hold a place in my heart. And, since I didn't even read the books until after Fellowship came out, I've never suffered from the mucking-about-with-Tolkien issue. (Yeah, I'm one of those LoTR fans.)

aw, don't feel stupid!

interesting...i think the reason i started with rps was because i thought the actors were hot, and it worked for me mainly because i could look at pictures of real people, and i needed that then. even though i'm a late fan of lotr, i definitely got into the books before the movies, and had very definite constructions of the characters going into it, so i never really felt like fps was realistic enough.

i think lotrips and sga work well for the same reason: the people involved give the fans just enough to make slash believable, but never so much that there's no room for original characterization.

anyway...sorry for rambling. i tend to be pretty private about fandom because family friends read my journal sometimes - hence why i'm not actually in any communities. so this is a refreshing conversation for me :)

I can understand that; there's something about the LoTR books that just...isn't slashy. (Probably why I've only read them once.)

i think lotrips and sga work well for the same reason: the people involved give the fans just enough to make slash believable, but never so much that there's no room for original characterization.

Yeah, there are some shows (like BSG and Grey's Anatomy, which I love) that are so well-done and tight that you don't feel the need to fill the gaps in, because there aren't many. SGA is definitely in that good middle ground, I agree.

Though I came to SGA from a older school fandom, due South, which is arguably one of the most canonically slashy buddy-cop shows ever. (They did everything except make out- and even then- including riding off into the sunset at the end of the show.) It was a little strange downshifting in a more subtexty fandom, but then my first big slash fandom was Harry Potter, where my favorite pairing never even talked once in canon, so I'm not that picky, actually. :)

And I totally understand the rambling, my lj used to be completely non-fannish too. But then family friends (and most of mine from school) don't know about it. I think.

You DO have a shirt. ;)

Know what I just realized? You are most likely reading my journal RIGHT NOW as I am reading yours. This is scary and slightly sketchy. Hee. ♥

ALSO.
Oh man, Due South, SGA, Naomi Novik, Canada? You and my best friend [livejournal.com profile] emhen are like the SAME PERSON. Seriously. This is the girl I was talking about who goes to UMW. Kind of awesome. I'm reading this and I'm like, "aww, slashy nostalgic!" because Em has indoctrinated me in the ways of slashy fandom and made me watch ungodly amounts of Due South and I've been beta-ing fic in these fandoms that I'm NOT EVEN IN for years. I can't wait to read the Naomi Novik books...I'm stealing them from her over break. As for me and slash.... I appreciate slash (*whimpers* ohsopretty), but I do not follow it from fandom to fandom as you two do. But it makes me happy that you do. Ha!

*requisite slashy icon*

Yay!

Hey, lj is an inherently sketchy medium. There is no shame in this.

Aww, wow, clearly this [livejournal.com profile] emhen and me (and my sister) should be friends. Do you know how hard it is to find anyone our age who's even heard of due South? All of the younger slash fen I've ever met are all about shows like Smallville and Supernatural and have no love for the more old school fandoms. (And I'm not allowed to watch any show on the CW ever, anyway. Long story.)

But yay! And if you do ever come over for Sci Fi friday, (or BSG when it finally airs, have you ever seen BSG?), you won't be put off but the gratuitous slashy squeeing that happens.

Duuueeeee Souuuuthhhhh.
Some of the greatest fic known to man. :)

Never seen BSG, and I'm a little wary...what about it appeals to you? Plot? Technology? Pretty graphics? Character development?

I actually don't watch much sci-fi besides X-Files and Star Wars, because there's a fine line between good and extremely cheesy. However: FIREFLY. We're having a marathon some weekend this year...the whole series and the movie, because Caitlin's never seen it. You need to come!

Gratuitous Slashy Squeeing (GSS) is what I do! Believe me. And on that note....Krycek/Mulder? Tell me you've seen them! *ded from the hot*

Due South did have some of the best writers ever. (And actually, a lot of them now write in SGA. *koff*)

As for BSG, the whole well-thought-out plot and character development thing kinda sold me on it. Plus Starbuck = so awesome and hot it's ridiculous. That said, I'm not fannish about it at all, because it stands so well on it's own I don't really need fanfic for it.

Yes, Firefly marathon! Let me know!

Krycek/Mulder? Well, I was into the X-Files way way before I was into slash at all, and I haven't seen any episodes in years, so while I theoretically support it, I'm not that familiar with canon anymore. (I *do* remember seeing the whole red speedo episode when it was on TV, though.)

Krycek/Mulder! Oh, god, you have to see the kiss! ♥ SO AMAZING. I actually was the one that got Em into slash with that....amazing feat, no? I was like "look at the pretty!" and she was like "but they're boyyyyyysss," and then it kind of all went to hell from there.

You must see.

I would not mind seeing a little of BSG to see if I like it. And, for all intents and purposes, I really should watch Stargate, but I'm so stubborn. Should get over that.

I'm going to get lunch. Darn you for (probably not) having a meal plan so we can jabber over fandom!
