Deathly Hallows
Jul. 20th, 2007 07:55 am( Yes, I am one of those assholes who got that copy of Deathly Hallows, read it in a day- and that was a pleasurable reading experience, let me tell ya- and is now posting about it the day the book gets published for realz because I'm an asshole who couldn't hold it in any longer. SPOILERS FOR HARRY POTTER BOOK 7, PROBABLY IN THE COMMENTS TOO, STAY FAR, FAR AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. )
Phew. I needed to get that out. Also, JKR is doing a publicity tour in September of 10 U.S. colleges and there's a (slight) possibility that William and Mary and my Harry Potter Club might get picked to host her!!!!!!!!!! I'm coming back for it, if it happens. *crosses fingers*

Jul. 8th, 2007 04:43 pmIt's been forever since I've posted, but NYC is awesome, though somewhat exhausting. My program is pretty intense.
And, instead of the job hunting I REALLY should be doing, I took a break to read an (extremely random for me) CSI/CSI Miami crossover fic that started out okay but devolved into one of the characters sobbing on the floor into the carpet at the prospect of a long distance relationship. But sometimes you're just in the mood for long, sorta plotty, badly-written fanfiction, you know? Especially on Sundays.
Also, who's excited about Harry Potter? Meeee. Though I really want to have a talking to whoever decided it'd be a good idea to release the Hairspray movie the Friday that they're releasing the seventh book? Because every teeny bopper who would have been there opening weekend to drool over Zac Efron will be reading instead. (Not that I fall into this category, mind you. I just think he's adorable. And he winks!! Oh man.) Must contrive a way to see both.

Also, in other HP news, someone please *please* stop me from writing the definitive P/O post-OoTP (and now all the way through HPB) fic. I've plotted it out. It's beginning to eat my brain. Never mind that with my writing speed it will take, oh, THREE YEARS before I finish it.

Jul. 15th, 2005 11:15 amThe day I hoped would come at last has come. At last.
So far, Day O' Dorkdon is going splendidly. Acting on a tip from the Harry Potter Club Historian from school, Lini and I dragged our asses out of bed to get to the Borders at 9 am, so we could get our numbers early for HPB. Numbers 13-15! We are so going to be those annoying people at the HP release party in the first 25 that everyone else *hates*. Bwahaha!
Now, to commence with watching SGA episodes and preparing for Sci-Fi Friday (eee!) which I so need, because it will be enjoyable and entertaining, while HPB on the other hand, will probably be awful and heartbreaking. After the Sci-Fi geekery, will be back off to Borders to get book, which I will receive shortly after midnight because, wait, what was it? Oh yeah, top 25, baby!
*runs around in a circle* Wheee!

SGA: Everybody's Doing It
Jul. 5th, 2005 10:27 amSo, HP was my first real internet fandom, the one that sucked my life away for over 2 years, long before I really branched out in my multi-fandom whorishness. And I drifted along from pairing to pairing, as you do in big fandoms like HP, going from first Harry/Draco (for like 5 minutes before I hated it), Harry/Ron, then Ron/Draco. And I picked up Percy/Oliver, and then in the adult era I first liked Snape/Lupin, because I decided that I didn't like Remus/Sirius fic, probably because every else liked them and I have moments of contrariness in that way (again, see Harry/Draco).
Finally though, one day, I came across Snape/Black fic. (Or rather I was bored and decided to like Snape/Black.) The first fic I read in the pairing were by
fabularasa. I was sucked in, just like that. And then she kept on writing! And they were all fabulous and plotty and gripping and I devoured them like the wonderful fic-crack they were. And then I tried to get all my friends to read them- I bet y'all remember that- and even though nobody was sold, I still loved her stories, and when I finally drifted away from HP (mostly thanks to Book 5-still bitter and dreading Book 6, thx),
fabularasa was my favorite author from HP. And then I guess she disappeared from fandom for awhile.
But dude, now she is back and she's fallen under the spell of SGA! I feel vaguely like a stalker squeeing about this in my lj, but come on! It's like all of my favorite authors from every random fandom I've ever dipped my toe in eventually write SGA. Woah.
It's like SGA has this enormous awesome-fandomy mass which means it has this ridiculous gravitational pull, so it can suck in all sorts of folk irrespective of how far away they are, fandomly speaking. (See, it even makes me dredge up the formula for gravitation force out of my brain, all the way back from my high school physics classes!)
In conclusion: go SGA. *huggles fandom*

HP fic Rec
May. 16th, 2005 02:03 pmI'm not much in the Harry Potter fandom anymore, at least not online, and I don't really read much HP fanfic, but it's amazing the things you'll find on lj when you're avoiding doing something else.

Hmm...that's all. For all my multi-fandom whorishness, I'm not really deeply invested in a lot of fandoms.

Jan. 12th, 2005 11:21 pmWinter Break is almost over. It's been a peaceful, quiet one, and complete with annual basement wallow. Right now, I feel like I have a lot of crap to get done and not enough time to do it. Bah. Whatever.
Also, in another disturbing incident of the Harry Potter movie franchise putting characters in pink that SHOULD NOT EVER, EVER WEAR IT, I give you this link.
Um, no.
