So...this will only really be interesting for Molly, Lini, Meg and Sonja maybe, so the rest of you can roll your eyes and move on. Yeah, it's a fangirl moment.

At school, unlike lucky Meg, I haven't really found anyone to be all slashy and fangirly with. There is my friend Shari who's really into HP, and knows her way around ff.net and FA, but she's not into slash as far as I've been able to tell. So we can bond over the general HP obsessiveness, but no further, as I view the world through slash colored glasses and she doesn't.

Sadly, the general truth is that it's almost impossible to find a fellow slash fan randomly in RL. After all, we don't all go around with T-shirts that say "I read and write gay pr0n based on characters in movies, television, and a popular children's book series. How 'bout you?" And even if you do wear fannish t-shirts, what about the inevitable "What's your shirt mean?" ("Oh, 'Sparrington'? It's a band. They're kinda obscure. Heh.")

This is frustrating to me, but it's partially my fault.

Because maybe I should be more open about it, more willing to let all my friends here know about one of my chief hobbies. But I haven't come out yet as a slasher. And I don't know if I ever will. Hell, I used to not put anything fandom-y here, for fear that some RL person would read it and discover my horrible secret. But you know what? Screw that. It's a part of my life, esp. my internet life, and if I want to post about it I will. And while it's entirely possible that some RL person from school has already tracked down this journal and figured the whole thing out, no one's said anything yet. (Besides, it's almost like having them know isn't nearly as bad as actually explaining it in person.) But until someone confronts me about it, I'll continue to live a double life. Which is kind of sad, because it means I'm a little bit ashamed of the whole business, even though I know I shouldn't be. *sigh*

That said, I'm especially aware of how lucky I am to have you guys from back home who are in fandom too. It's nice to have a RL and internet outlet for this.

Despite all that, I do keep trying to find fellow slashers here at school. And maybe I'm just projecting here, but recently I've come to believe that my friend Erica, if she wasn't too 'cool' to be into fanfiction, would in fact be a slasher.

My evidence:

*She once said to me that because she's a film major, she knows homoerotic subtext in movies like no one else (I scoffed at this. She's got nothin' on me.)

*When watching Jeeves and Wooster, has totally agreed with me that they're so married. And, when Jeeves leaves Bertie's service over the trombone, she was like, "Nooo!!! They can't break up!!" And she thought it was really cute that they still hung out even while Jeeves wasn't working for Bertie because, as she said, "They have to be together!"

*She has this film class project where she has to take a movie and make a trailer for it. Only the trailer has to make the movie come off completely differently in the trailer than it actually is. Like, for example, making a trailer of Psycho that makes it come off as a tender drama about a mother and son. One of her ideas? Take the Odd Couple and create a trailer for it that makes it seem like a breakthrough gay romance movie for the 60s. Dude!! The girl wants to make a slashy vid! And she doesn't even know what that is!!

Intriguing, ne?
