May. 11th, 2008 07:04 pmSo. I'm bored and don't want to do laundry.
But, Grey's Anatomy, right? I used to love the show. And then, somewhere in Season 2 or 3 it got more whiny and repetitive than I could take. (BLOWING UP KYLE CHANDLER = BEGINNING OF THE END)
BUT. It doesn't suck anymore, guys! I started watching it since it came back from hiatus (mostly because Entertainment Weekly told me to, and I am a sheep, a sheep when it comes to that magazine).
And guys, last Thursday's episode was AWESOME. More slashy (boykissage!) and also femslashy stuff than anything I've seen in primetime TV in a while. Thoughts:
Things that I liked, in no particular order, though my favorite stuff is at the end:
*Meredith has a shrink. Dear god, it's about freakin' time. I love Meredith (we have the same name, I can't hate on her, k?), but the girl has issues. I'm really glad she's finally starting to deal with them. Perhaps this will inspire me to go to therapy too, who knows? :P
All that aside, this is a brilliant premise for the show, because it finally gives Meredith a plausible context for her cheesy metaphortastic voiceovers! And, even more importantly, it gives us someone to respond to said voiceovers with things like, "That's a load of crap."
*Meredith and Derek getting back together. I like still them, in spite of everything. And apparently they're going to stop making Meredith sabotage this relationship for ridiculous, overly-explained reasons.
*Sandra Oh getting to play vulnerable and fucked up, instead of amusingly bitchy and fucked up. Also, on a shallow note, her hair was so cute in those braids.
*The DADT storyline from last night. *clutches heart* This felt like it wandered over from SGA fandom. Soldiers making out! (And Meredith, who is clearly a slash fangirl at heart, watched them do it, in a way that would have been creepier if I had any leg to stand on in that area). There were daddy issues, and life and death woobiness, and yeah, I was totally recasting it in my head as some horribly tragic McShep crossover story. (*facepalm*)
Also, thank you for the therapist calling bullshit on Meredith's interpretation of the events. It was horrible and sad (and sadly realistic, maybe) and I'm still a little angry thinking about it.
*And...my favorite part, Callie/Hahn. Yes, they are going there in canon, and I can't wait. (Woo! I need an icon!) First because I really like both characters. Callie started out as a bit of a plot device, and has always been shoehorned into kind of crappy story lines (like her and George getting married, ew, EW). I'm starting to appreciate the Callie the show has always tried to sell us on but never delivered. She's fun! She's badass! She's curvy and likes dancing in her underwear!
And Hahn! Erica, hi, HI, let's be friends. You are new my favorite character on this show. Brilliant at her job, snarky, dry sense of humor. And not without her flaws, either. I love that's she's awkward and hates small talk, and can't seem to help being hard on Christina because Christina reminds her of herself in the worst way possible.
Also, I like that this storyline has a slashy dynamic (as opposed to the usual gay romance on TV). Two characters, both presumably straight (Callie's been married, Erica, well, we've never seen anything to suggest otherwise), everyone thinks they're dating, they're not, one of them is pining, the other one is freaked by her feelings and handling it by sleeping with the office bike. It's good stuff, people! And I reeeeally want them to make out and date and be happy (though it's Grey's, so probably not the last one).
The short version is, I like this show again! It's also getting much gayer than usual. These two things could be related.
