So. I'm bored and don't want to do laundry.

But, Grey's Anatomy, right? I used to love the show. And then, somewhere in Season 2 or 3 it got more whiny and repetitive than I could take. (BLOWING UP KYLE CHANDLER = BEGINNING OF THE END)

BUT. It doesn't suck anymore, guys! I started watching it since it came back from hiatus (mostly because Entertainment Weekly told me to, and I am a sheep, a sheep when it comes to that magazine).

And guys, last Thursday's episode was AWESOME. More slashy (boykissage!) and also femslashy stuff than anything I've seen in primetime TV in a while. Thoughts:

Things that I liked, in no particular order, though my favorite stuff is at the end:

*Meredith has a shrink. Dear god, it's about freakin' time. I love Meredith (we have the same name, I can't hate on her, k?), but the girl has issues. I'm really glad she's finally starting to deal with them. Perhaps this will inspire me to go to therapy too, who knows? :P

All that aside, this is a brilliant premise for the show, because it finally gives Meredith a plausible context for her cheesy metaphortastic voiceovers! And, even more importantly, it gives us someone to respond to said voiceovers with things like, "That's a load of crap."

*Meredith and Derek getting back together. I like still them, in spite of everything. And apparently they're going to stop making Meredith sabotage this relationship for ridiculous, overly-explained reasons.

*Sandra Oh getting to play vulnerable and fucked up, instead of amusingly bitchy and fucked up. Also, on a shallow note, her hair was so cute in those braids.

*The DADT storyline from last night. *clutches heart* This felt like it wandered over from SGA fandom. Soldiers making out! (And Meredith, who is clearly a slash fangirl at heart, watched them do it, in a way that would have been creepier if I had any leg to stand on in that area). There were daddy issues, and life and death woobiness, and yeah, I was totally recasting it in my head as some horribly tragic McShep crossover story. (*facepalm*)

Also, thank you for the therapist calling bullshit on Meredith's interpretation of the events. It was horrible and sad (and sadly realistic, maybe) and I'm still a little angry thinking about it.

*And...my favorite part, Callie/Hahn. Yes, they are going there in canon, and I can't wait. (Woo! I need an icon!) First because I really like both characters. Callie started out as a bit of a plot device, and has always been shoehorned into kind of crappy story lines (like her and George getting married, ew, EW). I'm starting to appreciate the Callie the show has always tried to sell us on but never delivered. She's fun! She's badass! She's curvy and likes dancing in her underwear!

And Hahn! Erica, hi, HI, let's be friends. You are new my favorite character on this show. Brilliant at her job, snarky, dry sense of humor. And not without her flaws, either. I love that's she's awkward and hates small talk, and can't seem to help being hard on Christina because Christina reminds her of herself in the worst way possible.

Also, I like that this storyline has a slashy dynamic (as opposed to the usual gay romance on TV). Two characters, both presumably straight (Callie's been married, Erica, well, we've never seen anything to suggest otherwise), everyone thinks they're dating, they're not, one of them is pining, the other one is freaked by her feelings and handling it by sleeping with the office bike. It's good stuff, people! And I reeeeally want them to make out and date and be happy (though it's Grey's, so probably not the last one).

The short version is, I like this show again! It's also getting much gayer than usual. These two things could be related.

So I really, really hate Grey's Anatomy, and always have, but I watched it last week with my friends, and spent the WHOLE TIME thinking about SGA. Especially trinityofone's brilliant DADT story, with the pain chip thingies. :)

Yay, not just me! And I love, love that story. What a brilliant piece of epic, romantic political fanfic.

I just watched the episode online! And I was totally freaked out about the plot because I once sketched out a SGA/GA crossover where John and Derek were somehow related, maybe cousins, and he goes to Seattle Grace because he has a brain tumor that for some hand waving reason can't be operated on in Atlantis, and needs Derek's brain surgeony skills. Rodney of course, comes with him, and tries to be all sekrit lover, but fails miserably.

And then I chucked this idea with the others that should never see the light of day.

Watching that episode was like watching fanfiction on TV. Fanfiction that ripped my heart out. Especially his goodbye kiss. *clutches heart*

Maybe I should dredge it out...after we finish the current story, of course :)

I know, right? You should rewrite it as an SGA fic, you know, without the sad ending. D:

Also, speaking of the story, did you get my email?

That shrink is HORRIBLE!!! No shrink would sit there and talk someone out of getting over an ex who, for all appearances, is moving on with his life. It's not healthy and Meredith's obsession with him is bordering on pathetic. (But then I hate them as a couple and always have.)

But the Callie/Hahn bit fills me with joy. And the DADT storyline made me squee like no other. It was not a show I was expecting to go gay, but I like how they're doing it.

Oh, and I also love how Mark and Derek keep having awkward slashy moments and then laughing them off. Cause that would be horrible cannon, but it's funny to think about.

Yeah, EW. I do not ever want that to happen on the show. Though I could totally see a awkward drunken one night thing that happened back in the day that they NEVER TALK ABOUT EVER BECAUSE I BLACKED OUT AND YOU BLACKED OUT AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF EXPLANATIONS FOR WHY WE ENDED UP LIKE THAT THE NEXT MORNING.

Damn, now I'm thinking about it. ;)

Mmm, I sort of agree about the shrink? However, I don't think Meredith was getting over him, and pretending she's fine about it and then nobly sending him off to be with his new girlfriend to prove it to herself isn't exactly a healthy way to get there either.

Granted the shrink is part of the whole "get them back together" plotline, so that's the function she's serving. Still, I think Meredith does need to accept that she's upset about it, and then accept her (very large) role in why they broke up before anything else can happen in either direction.

I haven't been watching the show much until recently, so I could be talking out of my ass? :)

Anyway, yay for the gay! And the Callie/Hahn stuff will keep me watching for sure.

Yeah, but accepting that you're upset about something is supposed to be the first step to getting over it in the wonderful world of psychology. I actually thought sending him off with his girlfriend was a good move on her part, because it was clear that he was staying for her and not the patient. Which isn't healthy for either of them. Derek pisses me off because he keeps fumbling around trying to do the "right" thing and just ends up using/hurting everyone around him. He's going to end up treating Rose like he did Addison because he can't just suck it up and deal with the flaws of the women he falls for.

Ugh, sorry. Didn't mean to rant. It's just any psychologist should be able to SEE that and point it out to Meredith rather than being like, "You're not over him. It's a sign that you're meant to be together."

I do not disagree with you on any particular point. I guess since I'm more invested in the relationship than you are, I can handwave a lot of the bullshit maneuvering that's happening to get them back together. And yes, I do agree with you. Derek is just as bad as Meredith. Both of them are equally screwed up together in a toxic, codependent sort of way. But it's a cute, toxic, codependent sort of way. *shakes head at self*

Haha, I agree. Therapists (and I've seen a number) just don't DO that. Nor would they yell at someone who had just opened up to them. Not that anything in that hospital is super-realistic, but still. ;)

It buys into the whole "love is destiny" idea, which sounds very nice for fiction but doesn't actually have any psychological back-up.
