So. As I'm sure you all know, the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van is on hiatus for the month. *tear. moment of silence*

My life would be rather different if it weren't for that site. At the very least it can be blamed for my odd collection of Candian movies and TV shows.

Anyway, this seems like a perfect opportunity to break open the "JIC" file on my computer. JIC stands for "just in case", specifically just in case my internet connection goes, or I'm traveling somewhere with my laptop but with no internet. If I really like something, anything, in even the most random fandom I have only a passing interest in, I save it to the JIC file. The JIC file is also where all my downloaded vids go. It's currently weighing in at around 856 MB total.

And really, aren't you all just fascinated to see what I have there? No need to reply, I can see that you are. :) Some of these are going to be found among the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van's memories, but I guess it can just be a reminder during the long, long month ahead.

Anyone else feel like joining me in operating their own personal sketchy [livejournal.com profile] crack_van out the back of their car?

Fandom: LES MISERABLES

Title: As Lucifer Fell by Sue
Pairing: Valjean/Javert
Author Website: The Android's Dungeon

Part of the reason I like this is because I discovered it when I was actually in the show in HS. The guys playing Valjean and Javert had chemistry like woah. (Seriously, everyone said so, it wasn't just me over here in Everyone's Gay Lalala Land.) And maybe you're sitting here being like, "What?" But think about it: Javert spends his entire life hunting Valjean, Valjean spends his entire life running from Javert. Valjean saves Javert's life, which brings Javert to a stunning realization about the differenc between the law and justice (which also, uh, leadstohissuicide). It's tragic! It's romantic! But don't worry, Sue makes it all better, and keeps the characters as they should be, and she even makes you almost like Cosette. And maybe they're have been more since I last poked around this fandom, but used to be this was the only good take on this pairing out there. I think it's more than good, though. Try great.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

Title: Cliche by Shay
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred
Author Website: Chez Shay

*happy sigh* This might one of my all time favorite Muncle fics. It's short, but powerful. It starts off as a Napoleon muses rather ironically on some of the cliches of Muncle- and if you've even seen one episode of this show, you know it's about the campiest thing evah and there are many. Its a really nice character piece that builds up into an ending that is just exquisite. It still hits me here everytime.

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT

Title: Where Have You Gone, Tom Glavine? by Sabine
Pairing: Dan/Casey
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] iamsab
Author Website: you guys are just fucked...

I love this story. I remember it as being one of the very first Sports Nights fics I'd ever read. It's a little angsty, maybe, one of those reconcillation/reunion fics, but Sabine gets inside Danny's head and just nails him. She's so good at showing not telling, so that we know exactly what's going on, even if Dan hasn't got it figured out yet. The baseball metaphor stuff is wonderful (and very informative, if you, like me, know fuck all about America's Favorite Pastime). And also, a lot of it is about writing, one of my favorite subjects. Lovely.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH

Title: I Dream of Thee by Liz Ellington
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown

It's an adorable Christmas fic from the Slash Advent Calendar. One of my favorite entries in the calendar. Sweet without being too schmoopy.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH

Title: Watershed by Nifra Idril
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nifra_idril
Author Website: Neon Lights

This is one I was sooo close to reccing this past month on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. Looking back, I wish I had. Because it's one of those fics that has some of the most memorable F/K interaction I've come across. It's RayK in denial, and really, no one does denial quite like RayK. Nifra's RayK voice is so compelling. The sheer tension in this piece is wonderful, starting right from the first sentence, and it just keeps ratcheting up (the conversation at the restaurant), and up (the hallway), and finally the resolution is so breathtaking I can't even tell you.

VID RECS!

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

Song Title: Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright
Pairing: None, Norrington vid
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mimesere
Vidder Website: mimesere

Sure the song may be a wee bit over-exposed, but that doesn't change the fact that this is one of the most beautiful vids I've ever seen. It's soooo gorgeous. It does for Norrington what Laura Shapiro's "Lord, I Have Made You a Place in My Heart" did for Fraser- I honestly didn't really know Norrington until I watched this. Seriously, even if (especially if) you're not a fan of Norrington, watch it.

Fandom: MULTI-FANDOM

Song: I Kissed a Girl by Jill Sobule
Pairing: Many many many
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smutcutter
Vidder Website: Smutcutter's Vid Page

Heheh. This one pokes fun at all us slashers with hetsquick. Very entertaining. And the best thing about it is that for all the het macking on this vid, the song is so very, very gay. I love it!

That's it for today. Anyone interested in me continuing this?

Keep it up!

I'll post a "What I've Been Reading Lately" list of my own this weekend, because I've been saving a list stories I've wanted to rec for the past few months.

Yeah, I have a feel there will be a lot of dS in mine, if only because of the crapload of dS reading I did prior to my month on the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, and the high amount of stuff that I really wanted to rec but ultimately decided not to. Besides, I think reccing is a bit of an addiction. I in the determined mindset that everyone should read all the lovely stories I read and know my opinion on them. *g*

Yay! Looking forward to yours! :)

Lots of due South, HP, and some assorted things that don't fit into categories. I have a crossover list. I have a few lists I prepped for the Crack Van Small Fandom just in case I didn't get to rec QaFUK--Dark Is Rising, Sorority Boys, and Vorkosigan universe. I don't knopw that I am ready to expose all those recs to the world, except for the SB. The quality requirements for the Small Fandom tour is lower than the regular fandoms due to what's available, so I'd have to go back and re-evaluate. I might do the top three in each of those fandoms. What do you think?

I think I'll be driving the BtVS crack van im May, so I'll save any Buffy recs in case I want ti use them then.

Yay! I personally would *love* to see some DiR and SB stuff. And I have no idea what the Vorkosigan universe is, but I'm always up for a new fandom. *g* Oh, and yay for the upcoming Buffy recs! Who do you ship, out of curiosity?
From: [identity profile] raveninthewind.livejournal.com
Buffy is my first online fandom; I started out on a message board in 2000 (where I met one of my current LJ pals, [livejournal.com profile] darlingboys). Later I discovered BtVS slash and dove right in.

Way back in the day, like 2001, I liked Spike/Xander first, and then Angel/Xander--my first AtS pairings were Angel/Doyle and Wes/Gunn. I toyed with Angel/Spike, and Giles/Spike, but that didn't last long.

I BtVS crossovers. I like Doyle stories, and Lindsey fics. Xander was my boy for a long time, so I've read a variety of stuff with him, even het--I read this good, long Xander/Faith series by [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat last summer. I don't usually read het, though. But if I had to choose? Buffy/Spike over Buffy/Angel, just going on the quality of fanfic that's out there.

After several months in the BtVS fandom, S/X wasn't enough, you know? So I think I've read most m/m pairings avidly. I went through a looong Angel/Wes period and still follow a couple of WIPs. But I'd say currently, pairings with Oz do it for me the hardest, and those with Giles: Giles/Ethan, Giles/Xander, and Giles/Wesley. AUs or stories set post season 7 of BtVS are my preference. And I prefer to use my mighty powers of denial when it comes to the ending of season 5. ;D

The movie arrived today. I looked and it and realized that I'm going to have major issues with Paul Gross not being all upright and Mounty-ish. We'll see how it goes when I actually watch the movie. ::shakes head::

Ha. Yeah, seeing Men With Brooms was a bit of a shock to me as well. But you get over it, eventually. :) His performance in WW is definitely one that grows on you. I hope you enjoy it!
