Just added some new friends off the McShep Friending Meme, and it inspired me to get off my lurking butt and use this journal for its intended purpose and post stuff. *waves at the new folks*

First, a very brief life update because, well, not much has happened. My job's going all right (I have health insurance now, say what, working for The Man!). It's (almost) nice and springy around here- and oh, how I miss the southern coast of Virginia right now, let me tell you. I've also been pretty busy lately hanging out with folks and watching American Idol in my PJs with my roommates.

Also, lots of people visiting me soon, like [livejournal.com profile] duckfish (I think??), [livejournal.com profile] corporatepiracy, and [livejournal.com profile] sovietkitsch, and my engaged friends from college whose wedding I will be in at the end of this year.

And, in more fannish related things:

1. Meg and I are co-writing something for the [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga challenge. (And typing this reminds me that it's only a month away. Fuck.) We're attempting to do a McShep version of Imagine Me & You, a truly delightful movie that is perhaps the only mainstream lesbian romantic comedy ever. (With Lena Headey! And Piper Perabo, of Coyote Ugly, er, fame!)
ETA: IMO, Kissing Jessica Stein doesn't count as a mainstream lesbian rom com. One day, unless laziness prevents me, I will rewatch it, and compare/contrast these two to explain why.

Anyway, if anyone is up for beta-ing this when/if it's done please drop me a comment! We'd love more input, especially from someone who is familiar with SGA (and maybe the movie too).

2. [livejournal.com profile] moonilicious recently recommended the movie St. Trinian's, and I'm here to second it. For those who don't know (and I didn't), it's based of a series of drawings (and famous films from the 50s) about a rowdy, lovably chaotic British girls boarding school, run by an equally quirky headmistress, played by Rupert Everett in drag. If that wasn't enough of a carrot for you, Colin Firth is also in it, as the Minister of Education. And if that's still not enough, the two of them stare at each other a lot while violins swell offscreen.

Anyway, great girl characters, lots of hijinks/camp, and just generally fun. Get your hands on it if you can.

3. From [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore: In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.

Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish), then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.

Please spread the word if you're so inclined. The fight for good has never been so simple! :)

ETA: This might be different for callers outside the U.S., the jury still seems to be out. I just did it, and I had to press 2, then 1 instead of the other way around. Give it a try!

::raises hand as a beta:: You know I'm always interested.

Also, it made me very happy to see that you posted and it occurred to me that I miss you and you should let me know if/when you have plans to visit the NOVA area. <3

Cool! You can of course take a crack at the story (if we finish it, heh. Fuck.)

I miss you too! I should be able to take some long weekends this summer, which will mean NoVA visits for sure.
