Jul. 11th, 2007 02:55 am Just back from it, and here are my vague overall impressions:
*So. Good. I had a few minor quibbles with the stuff they cut (Sirius' death should have had more coverage, IMO), but overall I thought they did an excellent job considering how freakin' huge the novel is. Though I have no idea how it would work for someone who's never read the books.
*Ron/Hermione! Thank you, New Screenwriter Dude, for *finally* getting this right and not creating tons of weird Harry/Hermione moments. Though the whole Harry-possessed bit when he saw the two of them and then flashed back on all the happy times made we wibble, because OT3, yo. OT3.
*The ending action was (save Sirius' death) badass.
*McGonagall and Trelawney are totally girlfriends, and if I wasn't a lazy person who should be in bed already, I'd track down the fic that proves this.
*Harry was way less whiny and angry, and the ending was way more hopeful than I remember the book being. Which I think I liked.
*Sirius calling Harry 'James' broke my heart into tiny tiny pieces. I really really wanted a Snape/Sirius confrontation (yeah, yeah) but at least we got some of Snape's Worst Memory.
LASTLY, AND TOTALLY MOST IMPORTANTLY:
PERCY PERCY PERCY. I'm so glad the kept him in, though they could have had one line to at least MENTION the whole 'betrayed his family over the Ministry' thing. Still PERCY. My favorite pompous misguided twat, you make me so sad, but ILU. Hence ye olde P/O icon. Dude, I cannot wait to find out what happens to him next week.*bites nails*
Book 7, come on already!!

Date: 2007-07-14 04:09 pm (UTC)I do however agree that they did a really good job considering what they were working with. I only really found complaints toward the end when I felt like more of the energy of the movie had been devoted to earlier conflicts than the big finish. (Cause it is a pretty big finish.)
Also, did Harry remind you a bit of Frodo when he was posessed with Voldemort there at the end? He had that dirty, wide-eyed thing going and made me giggle a little.
