So, back from
con_txt this weekend, and it was so much fun! Though
moonblade85 and I weren't actually staying at the hotel, because we are poor and live less than 30 minutes from Silver Spring. ;)
This meant that I was kind of in and out of the con, and didn't get to do as much hanging out and meeting people as I would have liked (sorry,
raveninthewind, I suck!). But, the panels were all very interesting, and I did get to meet some lovely people, including
annavtree, who was so nice and interesting, and also possibly more in denial about Serenity than I am.
We also met
amandajane5, who was very adorable and SV garbed, and also one of the only other people at the con who actually liked "The Tower" (yep, nothing but glee for that ep, even now).
amandajane5 also raised the possiblity of karaoke at a gay tiki bar with the TWoP people. If you know me at all, you know that the words karaoke, gay, and tiki bar all fall under the heading of BEST THINGS EVER.
All in all, it was fun (including a non-smoking smoke break with
amandajane5,
norabombay,
aneli8 and
mayatawi), and it was so interesting to see internet fandom come to weird and wonderful life. I have some theories brewing about episodic television and old school fandoms vs. modern ones, but maybe later.
ETA: HAPPY B-DAY

Date: 2006-06-25 06:23 pm (UTC)I mean, what happens when something like that happens in an open canon fandom? How do people react? What are the relative merits of writing "fix-it" fics vs. staying true to the source and going from there?
And this applies to other things too, not just death. For example, what if one half of your OTP gets canonically involved with someone else? Can a fandom survive with its eyes closed and its fingers plugged in its ears?
*go off to ponder, and will really stop spamming you now*

Date: 2006-06-26 12:23 pm (UTC)The OTP/ship question is a good one and would allow us to talk about fandoms like BSG or Buffyverse. You know, I think this would make a really good panel. Too bad the next con-txt is two years away.
