Okay, this is random, but as I'm sure you all know, Betty Friedan has died. Now, I have an enormous amount of respect for her and what she did, and there's this line in The Feminine Mystique about woman shivering in the cool blue sunlight that I still remember, even though it's been years and years since I read it.
However, and I don't know how many of y'all know this, but Betty Friedan was also a figure behind the schism in the lesbian/feminist movement, you know, where the feminist movement tried to distance itself from the lesbians because the lesbians were hurting their goal to find a broader appeal. She even coined the infamous term "the lavender menace" for lesbianism in the feminist movement. That's nice. Not.
