Saw Spamalot. It was well done. Two major grievances, though. (Because hey, how am I supposed to enjoy anything if I can't pick it apart?)
First, Tim Curry was off this week. So no Tim Curry. At all. Sadness. The guy who filled in for him was really good, though and *such* a sweetheart when he did the stagedoor business at the end. Still, he lacked that indefinable star quality OMG it's Tim Curry vibe I feel was necessary for the role. Heh.
Secondly, the show itself. Well done, though really just Holy Grail the musical, with most of the same dialogue and jokes as the movie. And you know, when you been watching a movie over and over again since you were like 7, a different version is not exactly as funny when you already know the punchline and it's not exactly how you remember it.
As for the stuff they added, it was mostly (except for one part, I'll get to it later) ridiculous dance numbers that were mostly all about the chorus girls wearing skimpy outfits. Women have never really been a part of Monty Python, except for bits about sex. And while it works for the movies, what with the copious amounts of drag and all, it didn't work for the show. If Monty Python is going to have a chorus line, it should be a chorus of dirty Catholic children and Nuns singing "Every Sperm is Sacred" a la Meaning of Life. The standard chorus line here felt forced and useless, just window dressing with 2 X chromosomes. It was perfectly obvious that they had nothing to do or contribute to the show. Depsite this, I remain glad I saw it. Why?
ALAN TUDYK! *squeeeeeeee*
Oh, Alan Tudyk. I have been following your career for four years now. You are the reason I started watching Firefly on TV. I heart you. Thiissssss much.
So Meg and I ended up with second row orchestra seats, stage left, just off the aisle. Alan Tudyk's entrance: popping out of a castle window that was like RIGHT OVER OUR HEADS. For the rest of the show, he was often only two yards away. He was fabulous, and really, whatever Hank Azaria. And then EEEEE! He got a boyfriend! He got married! He got a disco number! Eee. (And there was also confetti at the end and the whole audience singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" and live theatre fuckin' rules.)
And *then* we Alan Tudyk came out afterward, everyone cheered for him, which was gratifying, because yeah, I think he's wonderful, but then he is the guy who has to fill Hank Azaria's shoes, and nobody really likes the understudy. But everyone loved him and he was just wonderful and *I* was the first person whose program he signed and I'm pretty sure I was blushing. Some guy next to us actually brought his Firefly DVDs for him to sign (dur- should have thought of that). Him and Meg and I totally fanned him about Serenity and Firefly. Go us. Anyway, squee. Pictures coming later, I'm sure.

*David Hyde Pierce (who is, perhaps, the definition of adorkable)
*Jeff Golblum (twice, actually)
*Billy Crudup
*John Lithgow
Also saw Union and Washington Squares, which included a pilgrimage of Death March proportions all the way to the East Village so we could eat at the Life Cafe (the one from Rent, oy). Still, I saw some areas of Manhattan I'd never been to before, and seriously? Greatest fucking city ever. *wants to live there*
Missed SGA. Still haven't seen it. Have vague sense of crappiness from what I can ascertain from my flist cut tags. And from other sources. Certain people need to stop spoiling me for it before I can watch it. (DIE MALINI DIE.)
