May. 31st, 2007 10:18 amI can write off some of what has happened over the past two days as human cock up. And while I am glad they finally apologized and admitted they screwed up, it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Because they seemed to think that they could say sorry and make plans to unsuspend a few accounts (which, has that happened yet? is anyone back?) and everything would go back to normal.
What worries me the most is that Barak Whoeverthefuck's apology was liberally coated with CYA. He didn't give a clear answer on what LJ/SA's policy on fiction is now and how it is going to be enforced- oh, excuse me: these policies are hard to define and harder to enforce consistently. What was *not* said, of course, was something that LJ has previously claimed, that it can take no responsibility for content on LJs, that illegal thoughts and ideas cannot be equated to illegal actions. In the wake of all those MySpace laws, etc., I suppose it was too much to expect, but I did. And if LJ is going to bow to this popular/legal trend and change it's policies I think we deserve know exactly these policies are.
Anyway, this was a first step. They need to fix what they did wrong and take steps to prevent a clusterfuck like this from happening again. I don't feel that trust has been restored, and while I don't want to leave LJ, I'm still feeling...wary this morning.
