Slow afternoon at work. So slow, in fact, that I'm doing a meme. I have this weird aversion to most memes, probably stemming from an entirely juvenile desire not do stuff that every else is, GOSH. (My Napoleon Dynamite joke is crippled by the fact that a) it's the internet so you can't hear my impression and b) it's not the fall of 2004.)

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] shetiger and [livejournal.com profile] 20thcenturyvole:

Name a fandom you know I know and I'll tell you:

1. The first character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise.

Most of my major fandoms are listed in my userinfo. BUT let's mix this up (and simultaneously cater to my desire to appear as though I know something about everything) and say that you can name whatever fandom you want, and if I don't have an opinion I will MAKE ONE UP.

Merlin. :D

1. The first character I first fell in love with: Merlin- gateway character FTW!
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Morgana. OMG Morgana. I was kind of irritated by her in the first episode (lalala pretty dress!), but somewhere between there and that moment in 1.08 when Arthur catches her with Mordred and she turns around in her red cape and looks at him I totally changed my mind.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Lancelot, if I had to pick? It’s not that I don’t like him, I just have snooty opinions about Santiago Cabrera’s acting ability and…yeah.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Gwen maybe, though I’ve *heard* a lot more about Gwen hate than I’ve actually seen.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: I haven’t been around long enough to get over anyone yet.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Morgana
7. The character I'd want to be like: Morgana /broken record
8. The character I'd slap: Nimueh, probably, but only because she could be SO MUCH COOLER than she was.
9. A pairing that I love: Arthur/Merlin (Gwen/Morgana, Everyone/Everyone...)
10. A pairing that I despise. Uther/Gaius, because I can see it, but I don’t *want* to, if you know what I mean.

Merlin - Damn, too slow! Doctor Who :)

I’m not super into fandom for DW, but here goes:

1. The first character I first fell in love with: Nine. Oh, Nine.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Ten. I’m gonna miss him.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: The Daleks, maybe? (Does anyone like them?) Not being an old Who fan, I’ve pretty much always thought they were just damn irritating.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Christmas Special Donna. For the record, I frickin’ loved her in the Christmas Special, and everyone thought she was screechy and annoying and was OMG HORROR when she was going to be in Season 4. GO DONNA. ILU FOREVER.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Rose. Not entirely- I still like her, but I really didn’t like the way she came off in the whole Rose/Ten/Ten 2.0 business.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Jack. Who wouldn’t at least once? ;)
7. The character I'd want to be like: Donna. I totally admire her ability to be ridiculous and awesome and getting out of her rut.
8. The character I'd slap: Mickey. Jeez, that boy irritates the living daylights out of me. It’s totally irrational.
9. A pairing that I love: I’m really bad at shipping in DW, but maybe the Master/Doctor.
10. A pairing that I despise. Ten/Rose, mostly because again, I’m not all about the shipping in DW and this one seems to be the most prevalent.

Due South! :D

(I was really, really tempted to do Princess Tutu just to see what conclusions you would draw from the title, I'm not going to lie. XD)

Aw, Due South:

1. The first character I first fell in love with: Fraser. He’s my homeboy in terms of intellectual awkwardness, emotional stunted-ness, and likelihood of dying alone in a cabin with naught but a furry animal to keep me company.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Ray K. This is a bit of a trick answer, since it took me all of three episodes (maybe) to love him, but still.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Dewey? Okay fine, nobody likes him, but he’s pretty much the only person that makes me go blech in the entire show.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Stella. Not that she’s not liked but I’ve always had a soft spot for her. I love how she seems so capable in every area of her life but her personal life.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: NO ONE. I LOVE EVERYONE. (EXCEPT DEWEY.)
6. The character I would shag anytime: Fraser. Or Thatcher. Bring on the Mounties.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Fraser. I would also like superpowers, kthx.
8. The character I'd slap: Dewey. See above, re: NO LOVE, blech.
9. A pairing that I love: Ray/Ray! I love them and their fucked up baggage so much you don’t even know. I was an F/K girl forever, but I came to embrace these two as my post-OTP pairing in a mostly OTP fandom.
10. A pairing that I despise. FraserRayV. I don’t despise them, but they’ve never clicked for me the way Fraser/RayK or Ray/Ray has.

And Princess Tutu, TOTALLY MADE UP THANK YOU WIKIPEDIA:

1. The first character I first fell in love with: Duck- no wait, seriously, is she a duck or a girl??? I'm confused. D:
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Fakir.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Mytho! (RANDOMLY PICKING NOW.)
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: The machine in the clock tower. Totally gets a bad wrap.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: The Raven. What happened, man?
6. The character I would shag anytime: Duck, but only in duck form. (YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.)
7. The character I'd want to be like: Duck. Because in another life I was a ballerina.
8. The character I'd slap: Drosselmeyer. Way to get your hands cut off and die, jackass.
9. A pairing that I love: Princess/Tutu
10. A pairing that I despise: Mytho/Rue

1. The first character I first fell in love with: Rodney. Brave Little Toaster Rodney!
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: John Sheppard. Like many people I suspect, I thought of him more as an attractive but cookie-cutter scifi hero type at first. Thanks to fanon and the Flan’s performance, he definitely became, bizarrely, the character I related to the most on the show. (Elizabeth gets runner up as the character I never loved much until she was gone, sigh.)
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Carson? I know a lot of people loved him, but I never did.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Lucius. (Kidding! Though I do like Richard Kind a lot. I guess I’m a total sheep when it comes to SGA.)
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Season 5 Rodney. Sigh.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Teyla. Mostly though I want Teyla to be my friend.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Zelenka. Smart, wears glasses, hates children, there you go.
8. The character I'd slap: Carson. Get a fucking grip, man!
9. A pairing that I love: McShep
10. A pairing that I despise. Sheppard/Weir. I will never in a million years understand why that was ever seen as a romantic relationship. (I’m being an obnoxious slasher here, but SORRY HET PEEPS YOU WAS GRASPING AT STRAWS.)

You know: I agree 100% with you on all accounts. I loved Rodney from the start and never thought I'd love John as much as I did in the end (though Woolsey is a close second) and I absolutely HATE Season 5 Rodney (what the hell did they do to him? *sobs*). Also never got Sheppard/Weir. At all. That's just so wrong on so many accounts... And if it makes you feel better: Carson was never my most loved character either. Never got the fuss about the guy.

Agreed! And Season 5 Rodney was one of the great tragedies of my fannish life.

AHAHA. Okay, fine. I don't even remember most of their names anymore:

1. The first character I first fell in love with: I'm trying to channel my 13 year old self and say that it was probably Ryan. Rion? Wasn't his name spelled in the manner of all fantasy characters, with an extra "i" or something? I'm too lazy to look anything up.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Naran. Such an interloper at first, but after everyone passed her around like a cheap bottle of vodka I didn't mind her as much.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Earth Dude. Boring!
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: ...Tamrissa (sp)? The fire girl? She was fiesty! (Shockingly.)
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Jovvi. Borrrring.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Maybe Jovvi? (Wasn't she a prostitute with a heart of gold? Am I mis-remembering that?)
7. The character I'd want to be like: Naran? I dunno, I'm pretty sure everyone in these books sucked.
8. The character I'd slap: Tamrissa. I liked her, but after the 5th time she and the Water Guy got broke up, her schtick started to wear thin.
9. A pairing that I love: I remember reeeeally liking Tamrissa/Water Guy. And that scene where they *almost* got together but he fell alseep and then Tamrissa (and me, age 13!) cried bitter tears of frustration! Oh!
10. A pairing that I despise: Earth Dude/Jovvi. They were pretty boring, IIRC.

Date: 2009-01-28 03:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] miripanda.livejournal.com
1. He was called Rion because his mother named him Clarion, and Jovvi renamed him. DUH

2. Lulz.

3. Lorand was the best! And definitely the best in bed.

4. Who hated Tamrissa? She was the heroine with the natural dialogue skills of a pet rock!

5. Jovvi was the prostitute with brains and the power to make people cry. So..yeah, I'd tap that.

Gawd I cried when they almost slept together but didn't and then he tried to blame it on someone using their powers to make him impotent or something..And Lorand and Jovvi were classic - "Can I love her even though she's a prostitute?" "Will he get over the prostitute thing already?" How will it end?!?!?!?!!!

1. Shame on me for not wasting valuable brain space on that bit of information!
3. I didn't remember his name. Ergo, boring. I don't think he had anything going on other than angst over the fact that his girlfriend was a prostitute.
4. Dude Tamrissa was annnoying. And yet I still liked her and was committed to seeing her fulfill her ultimate destiny.
5. Yeah, always sleep with the professional.

AHAHA I forgot about that twist! The magic! That's why we can't shag!

How did it end!?!?!? I didn't care by that point.

Yeah, I tuned out after finished book six (the first one in the Blending Enthroned part) and flipping 8 pages into book 7...they were far less interesting when they were just roaming the countryside with hundreds of other blendings. Made for some good orgies, I'll bet. My money's on "The 6 ruled happily ever after" for the final line of the series.

Yeah, no kidding. Did they really have a "Now ALL the Blendings must sleep with ALL the other Blendings and only then came we take over the world!" plot twist? Because I would not be surprised in the slightest.

Apparently the last one was spectacularly awful. Note this quote from an Amazon.com reviewer: "I personally like to drink tea but seeing EVERYBODY on EVERY page drinking tea grated on my nerves. IS THERE NOTHING ELSE IN THIS WORLD TO DRINK! Why were we subjected to this over and over like a club bashing in our heads. If this is what keeps the writer writing good for her but why subject us to all of this tea swilling. I found myself wanting to hold each and every one of the characters."

Date: 2009-01-28 03:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com
Sorry, that was: "...hold each and every one of the characters down and pour tea down their throats until they drowned in it."
