Apr. 19th, 2006 07:32 amI don't really write much. I haven't completed anything creative in about a year. I'm not a great writer or anything, and I know it, and for some reason SGA, my fandom du jour, like due South before it, just doesn't make me want to write things. Probably because there are so many amazing (read: intimidating) writers around here who have done just about everything I could ever think of (and lots more I would have never thought of in a million years- yes, Gingerbread Cookie pr0n, I'm looking at you).
But now that the semester's winding down, and summer is approaching, I've been getting the random urge to stretch my fanfic muscles and try something, just to see if I could. And look:
It's
reel_sga, a SGA classic movie challenge! SGA and Classic Films- it's like chocolate and peanut butter, kids!
The idea of this challenge makes me ridiculously happy, because old movies practically were a fandom for me in High School. And they have Bringing Up Baby (and
zoetrope is doing art for it)! And The Philadelphia Story! And omg I Was a Male War Bride would make the best McShep fic ever. And so would Pillow Talk- Rodney as Doris Day! *dies*
And I'm really, really, tempted to sign up, because there's nothing like a deadline to force me to actually do things, and this has structure to it, so it wouldn't just be me pulling out an unoriginal cliche. I'm sure it'd be fun.
But (and here's where the fingernail gnashing comes in) I'm not sure I could do it justice. The very idea of writing an SGA version of Pillow Talk intimidates the fuck out of me. And I know I'm just psyching myself out, and I could do it even if it wasn't brilliant, but I still don't know and argh, "flails*.
(Sorry about this post. This is what happens when Mere has an exam in 4.5 hrs.)
ETA: Yes, I signed up. Now I have to dig up my old VHS copy of Pillow Talk. Whee!
