So the last time I posted was, um, almost a month ago? Uh. Hey. ::sheepish wave::

*Right after that, my trusty netbook died. My mom got me a new one for Christmas (this one, if anyone's interested) which was cool of her since I couldn't really afford it on my own at the moment. That said, it was something like three weeks with no home access to the internet except for my iPhone, just in time for the penultimate Merlin episode. But I survived! It's possible! I read books and shit! Though I know I missed a crapton of flist goings on, so sorry. (Point me toward the notable/good stuff?)

*I have finally seen Merlin, and Sherlock Holmes, I've read some Yuletide, and I even caught the Doctor Who finale yesterday while clutching [personal profile] mklutz's virtual hand. It seems a little silly at this point to comment on anything, as everyone else has already said pretty much everything ages ago.

1. Of course the Doctor's death came about from something so noble and also so fucking stupid, thank you RTD, you're getting good at that.

2. John Simm was chewing a bit too much scenery for me at first, but that moment in part two where he was talking to the Doctor and he suddenly hit that sad, serious beat was excellently done. He has always done a good job of making you feel for the Master, even when he's being a megalomaniacal crazy pants.

3. The less said about the Time Lords and their Time Lord Red Felt Penis Hats the better. Though Timothy Dalton was a hilarious surprise.

4. The Who 'verse class reunion that happens at every single finale was expected, and maybe that's why it wasn't as totally heartbreaking for me as it could have been? The random Jack/Alonso made me happy though, which I wouldn't have expected. (Is there fic for them already? There has to be, right? Come on, fandom!)

5. NEEDS MOAR DONNA. I mean, if anyone deserves to win the lottery and have a husband who adores her, it's Donna, but what I said here about the Series 4 finale still stands. On a brighter note, the most happy flaily moment of the whole episode for me was when he called her his best friend. BESTIES FOR LIFE. I LOVE(D) THEM TOGETHER. I wonder what Donna would make of Eleven.

6. "I don't want to go." HERE. RIGHT HERE ON MY CHEST. THAT'S WHERE MY HEART IS. PUNCH ME THERE SOME MORE. THANKS.

No really, I'm going to miss him. D:

7. I've really tried not to be one of those bitter fangirls in total denial about regeneration being central to the franchise, and instead be happy that David Tennant is moving on and will get to do other things. And yet. The ending was totally jarring for me tonally (the "Oh noes! Am I a girl!?!" shit was fucking annoying for starters) and I'm not sure about Matt Smith. Consider me dubious. I mean, I'm not boycotting Series 5 or anything, and following David Tennant as the Doctor was always going to be the most thankless job in the WORLD, but still. Dubious.

*Also [personal profile] rageprufrock and [personal profile] thehoyden made me watch (okay, I went willingly) Die Hard 4 over New Years. This resulted in me spending most of this weekend indoors (it was freezing, okay?) reading John/Matt fic. This is what happens when everything is on hiatus.

*Lots of people seem to have done 2009 Year in Review stuff, which is cool. I have whipped up my own version:

1. RPS. I still have moments of being weirded out by RPS, and yet that doesn't seem to have stopped me from reading god knows how much J2 fic this year, also Colin/Bradley, and AI RPS sometimes, and oh yeah, remember that time I wrote Pinto fic? I've even had some weak moments recently when I've been tempted to seek out Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law fic. At any rate, my "I'm not into RPS I swear" tag seems increasingly unbelievable and- FINE. I ADMIT IT. I CAN'T LIVE A LIE ANY LONGER.

BUT AT LEAST I'M NOT IN BANDOM? ALSO I'VE CLICKED ON BUT NEVER READ THAT J2 FIC WHERE JOSHUA JACKSON IS PREGNANT JENSEN'S CRAZY ABUSIVE EX BOYFRIEND. SO THERE'S THAT.

2. Incest. I started watching SPN in 2009, and still it didn't break me. I mean maybe I had a few fleeting moments of privately agreeing with [personal profile] rageprufrock that Sam was riding the Unrequited Incest Express straight to Hell (literally, even), but these were few and far between. No really.

And then Morgause came to Merlin. And she started giving Morgana bracelets and staring at her intently and touching her face and and then they were kind of like a more dysfunctional evil girl version of Merlin and Arthur and it was REALLY REALLY GOOD FOR ME AND IT WAS LIKE I TOTALLY FORGOT I EVER SHIPPED GWEN/MORGANA AND FINE YOU GOT ME WELL PLAYED SIR.

...but really, can we call it incest when they haven't been raised as siblings? Half-siblings, even? Eh? Eh? No?

Fine. It's a slippery slope, I hear you say. And being sort of into incest is akin to being sort of pregnant. Sigh. ::crosses it off the list::

3. Vast age/power differentials between pairings. It never worked for me when I was in Harry Potter fandom back in the day (Harry/Snape, etc.), and it hasn't appealed to me much now (Gibbs/Dinozzo, etc.). Anyway, I was doing really well on this line until literally the eleventh hour of 2009, and then Die Hard 4 came along, see above. Any qualms I ever had about shipping a character with someone half his/her age went straight to the curb next to my dried out husk of Christmas tree. Damn. So close.

Lesson learned: lines are silly, and meant to be crossed. I am on track for 2010 to have no lines/standards whatsoever. By this time next year I fully expect to be doing nothing but injecting MPREG and sweeping Civil War AUs (and sweeping MPREG Civil War AUs) between my toes like someone from Trainspotting.

*So. How are you guys?
