Say what SPN 4.18?

I'm not even really in SPN fandom (
circa_eve is, but has only succeeded in making me watch a few episodes and maybe read some J2 AUs), and I haven't seen tonight's ep, but can someone please explain to me what the hell happened on the show that made my flist explode all over itself in a fascinating but so freaking vague way? Seriously, I don't even mind spoilers.
DID YOU LOOK INTO THE WINCEST ABYSS AND THE ABYSS LOOKED BACK? o.O
ETA: Spoilers in the comments, obviously.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:33 am (UTC)The show did one of these weird, Hollywood A.D. "there are books being written about our lives!" episodes, things get increasingly meta from there until Sam and Dean are literally looking up fandom on the internet. "What are slash fans?" Dean asks Sam. HOLY FUCK, answers fandom in unison. They mentioned Sam/Dean by name.
There was other stuff, too - it was so meta that the fourth wall actually began to dissolve under a pummeling of self-referential jibes - and also some cool plot, but it was MOSTLY THAT, FUCKING HELL, SHOW. YOU ARE A CRAZY BASTARD AND WE LOVE IT. And if you are me, still eyetwitching over it. But also... the love?
