Winner! \o/
Aug. 11th, 2008 09:35 amSo unless you’re a big theatre dork (me), or were perhaps raised by your local PBS station instead of people (also me), you're probably not familiar with their Great Performances broadcast of Crazy For You. Crazy For You was a “new” Gershwin musical from the 90s that farmed most of the classic gems from the Gershwin song book- a “gosh darn it, let’s put on a show!” story centered around a theatre in 1930s Nevada that has seen better days.
Anyway,
circa_eve and I loved it with all the fervor of a 6 year old with a Barney video- we watched it, quoted it, watched it again. We even taped it, and when that tape wore out, we taped it again the next time it was on.
Tragically though, someone (who shall remain nameless- HINT: we have the same genes) accidentally copied over that VHS to make room for an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. (Seriously, this incident is all you really need to know about what my childhood was like.)
This was, even more tragically, around the same time PBS stopped airing Crazy For You. It’s never been released on DVD thanks to rights issues, and
circa_eve and I assumed that this was destined to be a nostalgic piece of our childhood that would never see the light of day again.
HOWEVER. Look what I just won on Ebay, guys. LOOK.
It’s coming (all the way from England, ooh!) to my work sometime next week.
So yes. WINNER. \o/
Soon I will be able to watch this again, revel in the memories, and even embrace the slight disappointment that it’s not as good as I remember it being. AWESOME.
/disgustingly cheerful for a Monday
