Some recs for today, because it is Friday, yay, and there's no new SGA night, boo.

First, what I like to call SGA Fandom Crack Watch, because it's important to keep tabs on these things.

Just when you thought that it couldn't get worse/MORE AWESOME than the animal transformation fics or even the gingerbread cookie holiday porn, [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan steps up and gives us a hilarious and strangely touching flower!AU. A flower!AU. And it actually works, kids. Glee, people. Unbridled glee. I LOVE THIS FANDOM.

Life in Bloom by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan

and it's sequel The Necessity of Having a Bee (or Not) by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan. (Be sure to scroll down the the comments and check out the hilarious icons/photo manips by [livejournal.com profile] smuffster. Heeeeee.)

Next, a pair of recs, with pretty simular themes, one which made me go "Oh, Rodney," and the other which made me go "Oh, John."

Five Impossible Things Rodney McKay Did Before Breakfast by [livejournal.com profile] laceymcbain

I admit that the title sold me before I read a word, because that Lewis Carroll quote makes me ridiculously happy. Nonetheless, the story itself is gripping and beautiful, and shows us Rodney at his brilliant, Brave Little Toaster best. *loves*

And The Second Time Rodney McKay Surprised the Hell Out of John Sheppard by [livejournal.com profile] franticsga.

This is part of a series newcomer [livejournal.com profile] franticsga is working on, and you can check them all out in her journal, but so far this one is my favorite. [livejournal.com profile] franticsga not only nails all the character voices here, but she also manages to make John's reaction here wholly IC and believable, a feat indeed.

I'm off to work on resume stuff (AHHH I HAVE TO GET A JOB OR SOMETHING DAMN GRADUATING), and trying to finish my DVD commentary challenge entry by the end of today.

FlowerCrack for the...WHAT THE HELL?

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You hang around in SGA long enough and eventually an AU where the characters are flowers will seem downright...normal. :) And the best part is, the show itself is one canonical freaky alien sex ritual away from rivaling SGA fandom for sheer WTFcrack-ness.

For example, every single time any one of the main characters has made out on this show it's been because 1. was character's body was being possessed by a woman. 2. one character was turning in a bug 3. one character was a hallucination of the other (AND they went there with the wanking joke) and 4. both characters were possessed by 1000 yr old aliens who wanted to kill each other. And let's not forget the episode with the sex pheremones.

Conclusion: SGA WTF!!

HOLY CRAP. That flower!fic KILLED MY BRAIN. Is it wrong that I found it really adorable? Oh, God. This fandom has destroyed my standards.

Also, that [livejournal.com profile] franticsga is really really good, in a different way than a lot of other SGA writers. Hmm. *stalks her*

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW IT WAS SO ADORABLE I COULD NOT STAND IT AND MIGHT HAVE POSSIBLY MADE THE "FAMILY POTRAIT" MANIP MY DESKTOP BACKGROUND.

Um, yeah, standards? What are those?

And yes about [livejournal.com profile] franticsga! Her Rodney is great and I *love* the way she does John. Have already begun stalking myself. :)

By the way, part of my job at school is as a resume consultant, so if you ever want me to take a look, I'd be happy to...

Aw, thanks, where can I email you at?

Oh man, that flower fic is great. And the gingerbread cookie one continues to be awesome - icing nipples!! God, I'm so behind on fandom these days. :(

I know, it's amazing what should be insane and ridiculous actually comes out all happy and touching.

And yeah, it's easy to get behind when pesky RL crap gets in the way. ;) (So have you read "A Farm in Iowa" yet? Or "A Supermarket in California"?)

[identity profile] gilenaki.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
I did read those! They're amazing. Those came out before school started, though, right? That's probably why. Since then I've basically been just skipping over communities and only reading a few of the things that people I've friended post.

Although, man, I read a great HP fic last weekend, I think by [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza? She posted some artwork for it and then I wanted to read it - it was the one about calligramancy, when they're trying to de-mine Hogwarts.

I was thinking I might be able to catch up now that the episodes have stopped airing, but then I remembered that BSG starts this week...

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, I think I missed that one.

And BSG! I know! I'm trying to get through my Season 2 DVDs before Friday. In any case, v. excited.

[identity profile] gilenaki.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That may be because I lied, it's totally by Resonant, here (http://trickster.org/res/transfig.html).

Do you know what the deal is with the BSG webisode thingies? I'm trying to figure out if I need to watch them before Friday or not.
