So, since my summer job hasn't started up yet (long, kind of frustrating story that basically ends in me being unemployed and broke and twiddling my thumbs), I've had very little to do recently. Things I have accomplished, though:

*Lots and lots of vegan cooking. Mmm.

*Staring in mute, paralyzed terror at my [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga story. Dear god.

*Mainling lots and lots of Battlestar Galactica Season 1. It's so good! I love everyone! CKR is in it! Gaius, being the misguided pompous fuckup character, is so obviously my favorite. And it's all complex and sophisticated and stuff, and it's made me realize how long it's been since I've watched a television show that's actually...good. (Everwood, I loved you but you don't count. The Sentinel Season 1 that Meg bought definitely doesn't count.)

But don't worry SGA, I still heart you! You're so shiny and special and no matter how terrible you get I will love you forever! (Yes, this is a girl how felt nothing but glee at The Tower.) In terms of scifi-ness, BSG is like the kid who has gotten straight As since birth so its great report card is just something to be expected. SGA, however, gets cookies and six gold stars on its face just for bringing home a B on a test. Aww. SGA. *ruffles its hair*

And speaking of SGA...

*Have also begun making my way through both seasons of SGA in order to be all re-caught up for Season 3 (30 days! Whee! *spins*). And Season 1 is actually pretty uniformly good, even better than I remember for some reason. I especially liked rewatching "Poisoning the Well" and "Underground" as they're very interesting when you look back on them from where everthing is at the end of Season 2. All of Carson's moral superiority over the Hoffan's anti-Wraith innoculation and the methods they use regarding Steve the Wraith is such a far cry from where he is now. Slippery slope indeed.

And "Underground" is of course a really interesting ep when you compare it to "Coup d'Etat" and realize that the Atlantians HAVE LEARNED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about things like not doubling crossing the Genii and, oh, not turning all their interactions into giant clusterfucks. Seriously, have spent most of the time thinking, "Oh, just wait, you all are going to screw this up soooo bad."

Other observations so far:

-Carson in The Storm/The Eye is soooo annoying. I realize he's out of his depth, and if it were me I'd be damn freaked out too, but come on, how hard is it to pretend like you're cool and STFU?? Seriously. I wanted to choke a bitch. He's less irritating now, and even sometimes adorable, but Ford spends a lot of both episodes looking like he wants to shoot Carson, and seriously, I was in total agreement.

-John being all stealthy and killing lots of people will never not be hot.

-My love for Teyla grows ever more. Patience of a saint, I swear.

-I miss Ronon in Season 1. How lame is that? Still, there's not enough tall, dark, and intimidating in Season 1. Or knives in hair.

And lastly...
*I'm getting ramped up for going to [livejournal.com profile] con_txt on Friday! Whee! See a lot of you there! The idea of a John Sheppard panel makes me ridiculously happy. And so does the trademark and copyright one! Yay! *spins lots*

He. Okay: so I got hired pretty soon after I got back at New York & Company in the mall, and they scheduled me for training two weekends after that. Then I got a call the first weekend asking me to come in for training a week early if I could- I think they do the training in blocks, 3 at a time, and one girl dropped out or something. I did come in, but because they weren't expecting me to start training until the following week, they didn't have me on the schedule. Besides this, they were having scheduling problems anyway. They said they'd call me in a few days when it got sorted out.

Meanwhile, while job hunting, I'd lined up an interview with Crate and Barrel that I figured I'd go to if I could, just to check it out. It was on a Friday, and I hadn't heard from NY&Co. in almost a week at that point. So, I figured I'd go, and if they paid me better, then I would go with them and tell NY&Co. I couldn't work for them (and considering they apparently couldn't schedule me, I didn't feel too bad about it).

So I went to the Crate & Barrel interview, and they did pay better than NY&Co, so I accepted the job there. They also do massive block training sessions, and the one I was scheduled to go to was in about a week after my interview. Meanwhile I called NY&Co. about working elsewhere and they were fine with it.

However, Crate & Barrel called me a few days after that and informed me that they didn't have enough people hired for the training session yet, so there were going to push it back, and they'd call me and let me know when. Seems like the same shit, different company, right? Anyway, didn't here from them, blah blah blah, and when I did call, the people I needed to speak to were on vacation/on the phone/conducting an interview. Meanwhile I have nothing to do and literally no money. Grr.

I finally got it sorted out yesterday though, and I'm starting training next week. However, I get the sneaking feeling that they aren't going to give me a lot of hours what with all the new people. Whatever. I hate summer jobs. And money. And people in general. Except you. ;)

I'm getting hooked, thought you should know.

And totally use your time off to come visit. It's a fairly cheap vacation spot with yours truely!
