Sci Fi? Lacking characterization? Who ever heard of it!?

Rodney has a breakdown in John's lap?

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-04-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! That is why SGA has a fandom. To make up for such things. Basically, what I'm trying to say here is that YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO MOCK IT UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN MORE THAN 1 EPISODE. *crosses arms*

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-04-16 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
He! Yeah, I'm not sure why, but it's hard to even imagine a scene like that happening on SGA- too touchy feely or something, I don't even know. Because the SGA equivalent of a lap breakdown would be like if Rodney called John his first name once.

I've seen more than one episode. I've read some fanfiction. But the fact is that sci fi...lacks characterization sometimes....

I know! I love my emotional retarded boys! They are me, only with boy parts.

I know! Whatever flaws it has, I'm impressed with this show's ability to take a look at itself and try to fix what's not working. Like Ford in Season 1.

[identity profile] merelyn.livejournal.com 2006-04-16 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. The show wouldn't be the same somehow if you couldn't watch it and be all, "OMG John just touched Rodney's shoulder!!! Did you see that? For like a whole second- OTP 4EVAH!"

The highest echelons of SciFi, like Battlestar Galactica or Farscape, are actually pretty damn good about characterization. That said, I love SGA but it will never qualify as that. Anyway, forgive my "nobody hits my little brother but me" response. :)

The highest echelon of SciFi is Firefly in my mind, and it has WONDERFUL characterization that those shows can't even touch.

And all is forgiven.
